Personally I feel that technology can be a good thing in the
class room, but there are ways that it can be a down fall to some assignments. For
example group projects the group can just be playing games or looking irrelevant
things on the computer, or having only one person doing all the work. Even with individual activities students tend
to mess around and take twice as long as it should take to get things done. There
is also the fact that some times the computers do not like to work properly or
the Internet is being slow because of the number of students on, but that will
always be one of the problems with technology. I’m not saying that technology should not be
used in the class room, because there are pluses to having it in the class room,
an example being that you can have more research done about the topic the class
is talking about and you can find a wide range of information. By using technology
it is helping students understand the way society is going and it also cuts
back on using materials in class like paper. For teachers technology does make
it easy to give a lesson because there are smart boards now and more and more
schools are getting them. They are replacing the black board and white board. Not
only that but it makes it easy for students to interact with the lesson and
teachers are able to give more examples using the technology.
There are ways around the "students tend to mess around..." statment. For example, walk around your classroom, or give the students a strict time limit and if they don't complete the given assignment, then they should get points taken off their score for mismanagment of time.
ReplyDeleteAs you stated there will always be a problem with students playing on the internet. I think one way to help deal with this problem is to have progress checks both halfway through and at the end of a class where you are on the computer.
ReplyDeleteI like this, as the other commenters have said you will need to control it but i like the thought that went into your post.
